Before widespread use of Windows, the mouse or the internet, my father put me in front of a computer to help me learn the alphabet through a silly game with a penguin. I remember learning DOS commands before multiplication or long division. I learned something else from that computer, almost as valuable as the alphabet: my father told me that if I couldn’t fix that computer when I had a problem, no one else was going to fix it. I discovered that the vast majority of computer problems could be fixed if you have enough patience and knowledge. I’ve been fixing computers and similar devices since that lesson on self-sufficiency.
Throughout my career, I have taken complex problems and forged simple solutions using available technology. I created an audit system of basic inputs for a giant financial firm to track and prevent investment error on billions of incoming dollars. With my most recent employer prior to the entrepreneurial path decision, I transitioned a 100+ year old business from a hand written accounting process to a thoroughly documented, easy to follow computer method. I realized that my ability to fix technology issues and solve business problems should be shared with people who need help.
